New Music

I have a confession.
New music is like Christmas for me.
I get so excited to walk to class because I get 15 minutes of music.
Here are the best of the newest music I just bought:

Take a listen. I dare you.
And that is what I've done today. Made dinner, made cookies, had some great conversations, and bought myself some new music.
It was a really good relaxing day.

Benadryl Hangover

It has been a very interesting start to this week.
After a very full, busy school day, I came home and played guitar for the first time really since I was sick last week. (Darn that Pineview cold that has gotten everyone!) After FHE, me and Lauren and Ian and Craig decided to go longboarding. After one beautiful run through the stadium parking lot, we were pumping back up to the top of the parking lot. Suddenly I  heard a terrible noise and felt my longboard jerk...so I jumped off and turned around to see that my front left wheel had common off because the nut was too loose. Luckily Craig caught my wheel, and luckily I wasn't going really fast when it happened. Anyway, that was a huge bummer...it's off to Zumiez today to get a new bearing and nut for my wheel.
My night got better when we watched Wait Until Dark, especially when Ashley took the opportunity to scare the crap out of me...hahaha. I got ready for bed and was laying there about to read scrips when I suddenly realized I was so itchy. I could feel weird bumps all up and down my legs. I jumped out of bed and ran out to Elise and Justin and had them look at it. They both came to the conclusion that it was hives. Hives?! I'm not allergic to anything, hadn't eaten anything weird, hadn't been outside....but as they spread over my whole body, it was the only probably explanation. So I took two benadryl, panicked, and tried to stop itching. Luckily Justin and Elise were sooo good to me and helped me stop freaking out haha.
So now today I am looking and feeling much better, besides one funny eye that decided to swell up randomly. Now I just have to solve the mystery of what caused me to get hives. As long as it's not chocolate, peanut butter, or milk, I will be totally fine. Haha.
  P.S. Happy 100th post, blog!

99 Red Balloons (and pink and purple)

I'm just sitting in my dorm room covered in pastel pink, purple and white balloons. It's no big deal really. Except I'm having a hard time typing, because Mckay is currently tossing balloons at me and covering my keyboard. Me and Ashley have been quoting/singing along to Princess and the Frog while we blow up balloons.

Once upon a time I lost a bet with Dan, and as punishment, I have to throw him a surprise party. So the theme is "Surprise Dan! You're our friend!" hahaha. I had to do it by the end of the month, so I figured tonight was as good as any. Especially since I need something good to happen considering I FAILED my test in perception and psychophysics this morning. It suckkkked...six hours of studying...SIX HOURS and I still had no idea what was going on on that test. :( I hope we never get our scores back EVER.

Currently we have blown up (okay, mostly Ashley) 144 balloons that we are going to put on Dan's bed/in his bedroom. Actually, 2 popped. So 142.Then I got cute pink and white streamers for his girly surprise party. hehe.

Tonight we're all sleeping on the quad for homecoming, so I went to WalMart and purchased an amazing $5 blanket. It's gonna be a good time yo. Tomorrow morning is yoga Saturday with Elise, the homecoming game, and then the homecoming dance! I think this weekend is going to be a good one :)

Last night was such a weird night in a good way. Between study sessions me and Ashley went on a long Walk & Talk, wrote a contract, and then I was surprised by one of my friends from my Jerry Seiner days. It was SO GOOD to see him again, but completely and totally weird, since last I saw him he was engaged and living in Colorado again and now he is neither. It was a good talk we had.

Chicken Noodle Soup and stuff.

On Monday I went to class at eight thirty, only to find out it was cancelled and I should have read my email before getting up and hauling my behind to class. So today I was like hey...I should check my email to see if class is cancelled! So I did. And class was not cancelled. So I dragged my poor, sorry, ill body out the door, hiked up the hill while my throat screamed out in pain, and got to class only to find-it was cancelled. Again. Oh my life. So now I am spending time in the library being very productive.

I would like to say I'm kicking this cold's butt, but I sure am not. I have tried everything. Herbal remedies, vitamin C overdoses, sick foods, pills, pills, and more pills, and it keeps coming back with a vengeance. Go away cold!

I have two tests this week, tomorrow and Friday. I studied lots for my social psych test I have tomorrow, and I think I'll do okay. Perception and Psychophysics however........well, I should start praying for that one. haha.

Sorry this was a really boring, whiny blog post. Maybe when I can hear again and my lymph nodes aren't swollen anymore I'll write something good.

Of Mice and Men. But mostly men.

Once upon a time, me and Ashley decided to take an Institute class called "Planning for Eternal Marriage." It was kinda a joke...but they decided to take it in hopes of changing their attitudes towards men-that they all only want action, can't be trusted, and don't ever take girls on dates.
If we're being honest, these ideas haven't changed-yet. But I am very, very glad I signed up for this class. I loved something our teacher said one of the first days: "Heavenly Father will put the best possible things in your path if you stay on the straight and narrow, and this includes a husband." WOAH. Now it seems pretty obvious to me that this is the case, but when he said it, it really hit me. I don't have to go out there and try to physically FIND someone that will want to take me on dates or buy me flowers or stupid, cheesy things like that. All I have to do is be the best person I can be and be doing what I'm supposed to for a relationship, and I can leave the rest up to Heavenly Father in helping me find the right guy. It could be this year, and it could be ten years. But if I let Heavenly Father in on the whole "find Sloan a man plan," my odds of success suddenly shoot up to 100%.
I'd say those are pretty favorable.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that it suddenly gets easy, because it doesn't. It doesn't change the fact that most boys don't ask on dates, don't want to spend money, and want to play the field. But it gives me hope. REAL hope. I don't have to go off the path to find someone nice. In fact, Heavenly Father is saying NOT to do that. And heck, if He's going to promise me I'll find someone that I deserve and that deserves me, who the heck am I to argue?
Don't they always teach us that marriage is a three way thing? You, Husband, and God? It only makes sense that if He's that integral to the marriage step, He's also extremely crucial in the dating stage. I'm pretty sure it's impossible to screw this up if I have Heavenly Father's stamp of approval on the deal.
And so now, my job is to be patient. There is no rush. Sure, I like having a boyfriend...a lot. But I'm learning that there are many, many things I can only learn while I'm single and testing the dating pool. No more jumping in. Toes first, slow it down, learn to enjoy the ride, not just the destination. Right?
Maybe this is why Planning for Eternal Marriage sounded like such a good idea to me. Heavenly Father is trying to tell me something I'd say. And I think it's about time I stop being so hard-headed and listen up.

Sour milk and burnt fishsticks smell :)

I love fruit smoothies. They make me feel so healthy and are totally delicious!

I wish people could understand the name Sloan and stop calling me Slum. And Sloaner...hahaha.

I get to see big sister tonight! I should probably water Grawp before she gets here...

Our next door neighbors REALLY like Linkin Park. Like 4 hours a day of Linkin Park.

Kinda obsessed with this song since it came out this week.

Waiting for 3 letters to get here! Come on!

Swing is such a great way to connect with people....:)

Two tests next week, two the week after :S

Insanely grateful my best friend didn't get hurt at all in her car accident. Thank you Heavenly Father.

Started private piano lessons today! I'm actually really stoked.

Pictures, Stuff, and Nonsense

Good news!! Grawp the grapefruit tree is growing little baby grapefruits!! Hopefully they survive...sorry Jade. haha.  Speaking of Jade, my favorite big sister is coming to Logan on Thursday to visit me. Holy cow I miss that girl! We are going to have an awesome evening-VD, wedding plans, girl stuff. I love my sister. I really will miss her this summer when I move home and she's married and stuff. :(

On our photoshoot a couple spilled their Jamba...

Ashley face cradling nature :)
Have I mentioned yet how much I love college? I don't know how I got so lucky to have such awesome roommates. We are getting so good at roommate dinners. I don't know why, but having a real, live kitchen table this year has made it feel so much more homey. Not to mention all the artwork Lauren has done that decorates our living room.

The Rocket Summer concert :) Me Bri Elise and Ash

Probably one of the coolest pictures I've ever had taken of me. Thanks Ash :)

Here's my life everyday.
  • Get up.
  • Get ready
  • Breakfast.
  • Hike up the hill, longboard to class.
  • Come home.
  • Eat/facebook/stalk/blog/email
  • Homework
  • Dinner with the roomies
  • Play guitar/longboard/maybe some more facebook
  • Do something SUPER EPIC with my roommates/possibly room 32
  • Watch a movie
  • Go to bed way too late.

The Rocket Summer concert!
And that is what I do. Almost everyday. It's kinda fantastic if you ask me.

Scott, Justin, Jim, and Dan after the game
Here's some of the stuff we've been up to lately...
True Aggie Night to watch other people kiss
The Dark Side of OZ
FroYo
Youtube vids
Cleaning the sink
Singing at the top of our lungs with the windows down
Aggie football!!
Uke/guitar jam sessions
Ice cream trips to Walmart
Random photoshoots at 2nd Dam
Bonfires!

Me, Elise and Ash after the football game Saturday. Killed Weber!!
The only complaint I have is (of course) about boys up here. Would it kill them to ever ask on dates? Or be straightforward and honest? I don't know how any girls are managing to find boys that will take them out, respect them, and actually make committments. But for all the rest of us- oh well. It never seems to change. Maybe me and Ashley will learn some great tips in our "Preparing for Eternal Marriage" institute class, hahahah. Or find someone that actually still believes in chivalry and dates...

We had lots of fun taking pictures :)

Labor Day is Party Day.

-WARNING: This post will most likely be a novel. Don't say I didn't warn you.-

It's that time of day when all my roommates are gone and I get to sit home alone at the dorm. Today I am finally doing some laundry and catching up on my blogging...maybe I'll do some homework later. :)

Last week was such a party. Classes were easy since we didn't really have to do anything, so I felt okay about slacking off a little bit. Tuesday we watched Thor on Old Main, which is not so comfy of a hill. Wednesday was fantastic! Me, Nick, Bri, Elise, Lauren, Dan, and Justin all went to Western Swing Wednesday. Holy freak I have missed Country Swing nights!! It was such a blast, especially since Dan has taken some swing and Justin was willing to let us teach him some of the basics.

Thursday...I don't remember what we did Thursday. We probably watched a movie, haha. I think I've already watched 10 movies since I've moved up here. Friday, though, we all dressed up and went to the 80's Dance on the Quad. It was so awesome! Thanks to Dan, we all had the nice experience of being in the very front of the dance...okay, maybe not so nice of an experience. Thank you Justin for making sure me and Ash did not get squished by large amounts of sweaty, smelly people. you saved us!

Saturday we slept in a little bit and then me, Ash, Elise, Dan, Justin, and Jim all drove down to Porcupine Dam to try cliff diving, which only Dan had done before. It may have been one of the most exhilerating experiences ever. I jumped off a freaking 25 foot cliff! Three times! On purpose!! Honestly the worst part was trying to convince yourself to jump...the jumping/landing itself was just sick. After Elise convinced herself to jump off the cliff (Ryan Gosling's words of wisdom helped some...:)) we swam back and ate pizza, us girls had a dance party in the car while the boys got pulled over for having a suspicious vehicle, and then we went to Twizzleberries (I am pretty positive I did not spell that right, but oh well) for some fro-yo. We came home, napped, and then all of us went to The Rocket Summer concert on 7th North.

Sunday I went to church with my lovely darling roommates, and then me and Ash had a Disney day and watched Bolt and Mulan...which turned into a group Disney party. Elise made us delicious fajitas for dinner and we had roommate dinner (cute. haha). After getting blown off by the bishop for my interview (are bishops even allowed to do that?) we went to ward prayer, and then came home and played games in 32. Don't mess with me in Jungle Speed...I will kill you. Probably the highlight of my day, however, was when we turned on Phantom of the Opera and all of us, including the boys, sang along to every single song in the movie.

For Labor Day, me, Ash, Bri, Elise, Lauren, Dan, and Justin drove up to Bear Lake in the morning and spent the afternoon on the beach there. We played football and frisbee and Egyptian Rat Screw and swam in the water, which was surprisingly warm, and made Elise a mermaid in the sand. Afterwards, we went to LaBeau's for cheesburgers and shakes. AMAZING. On the way home we sang along to Disney songs and played music guessing games...we're really mature. I took a fabulous two hour nap that was much needed, went to FHE, and then me and Dan went and got Ashley a Jamba to bribe her into watching Tron with us. Still one of my favorite movies. I love Daft Punk!

As a side note, it's really awesome to get into a religious discussion with boys that aren't even six months off their missions yet. They are so excited to talk about it and almost have a glow about them while they talk about it. The boys in 32 are my favorite, they are all so great.

Yes, this year is off to a great start. We already have some really great friends we spend every day with, and my roommates are all incredible, gifted girls.

P.S.- Welcome home Nicky, we missed you a lot this weekend!! :)
